I am excited to support those fighting cancer by participating in le Tour de Femme’s virtual event in October. The funds raised during the event will be split between Rex Healthcare Foundation’s Angel Fund and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. The Angel Fund provides financial aid to patients in need as they go through treatment at UNC REX. The funds donated to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund are earmarked towards upgrading the imaging equipment on the UNC REX Healthcare mobile mammography units, from 2D imaging to 3D imaging. The units are used to provide mammography screenings to the under served areas of our state, free of charge.
So many of my family, friends, and colleagues have had their lives forever changed by cancer. Some have endured their own personal battles. Others have supported loved ones through their fight. Some have been victorious, and some have lost everything. I ride in honor of my mother-in-law; my brother-in-law; my sister-in-law's sister; my stepson’s mother; a cycling friend, fellow adventurer, and mentor; a friend from high school; several colleagues from work; and a work colleague’s wife. I ride in memory of my maternal grandmother who I only know through my mother’s stories; a great uncle for whom my brother is named; a great aunt who shared my first and middle name; my husband’s father who I never had an opportunity to know; a dear friend, colleague, and adventurous spirit; a cousin; and an aunt who passed earlier this year.
You can also support those fighting cancer by signing up for this event or by sponsoring me with a donation.
